Parenting From the Heart

led by Cooper Teachers, Lillian Woo, Jacquelyn Longo, and

Tim Nelson

One last opportunity!!

We only have 10 slots left for this fabulous group.

It takes a village to raise a child.  We all realize the enormity of the job of parenting and it is always wonderful when we can share and support each other in this process.  Unfortunately, children do not come with owner’s manuals and the choices we have to make as parents are not always straightforward or easy.

If you would like an opportunity to learn new ideas about how to support your child’s emotional and social growth while at the same time helping them to develop internal discipline, sign up for the Parenting from the Heart class.  (See attached flier.)

five Wednesdays, May 14-June 11

Childcare and dinner will be provided

Dinner begins at 5:15

Class begins at 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Parenting Corner:

Family Meals

Research has shown that children who are in families that eat together are less likely to use drugs and have a better graduation rate.  How do you keep your kids at the dinner table long enough to have a good conversation?

Try these ideas to build quality family time into your dinner hour:

Keep the conversation light.  Focus on the events of the day or fun weekend plans ahead.  Of course, praising your children for a job well done at school or home is always welcome.  The more specific you can make this praise, the better.  For example, you might say, “I see you completed your reading log for the week and were very detailed with your descriptions.”  This gives a child specifics about the  “Good Job!” we often use for praise.

Take turns.  Ask each person to tell one interesting thing he or she learned during the day.  That includes you, too.  You might mention something you read in the newspaper or learned about at work.

Play a game.  Try the “name game.”  Start with the name of someone famous (Martin Luther King).  Go around the table, taking turns calling our another well-known person or character with the same first or last name.

Twenty Free Tickets to Evening Concert

Corigliano String Quartet will once again give a special performance for

Cooper students.  This nationally acclaimed Quartet gave a performance in our hub earlier in the school year to the delight of our students.

We have available twenty free tickets to the Corigliano’s evening concert at Meany Theater on the UW Campus on Thursday, May 22 at 8pm.

The school must send a list of attendees to the organizer by next Thursday, May 15.

If you would like tickets to this concert, please contact the school no later than the morning of Thursday, May 15th.  We will need to know how many tickets you would like.  Call the office at 252-8170.
